THE HOOK PENINSULA

I have painted here many times and can always find something new to interest me. The lighthouse is the oldest working lighthouse in Europe and is positioned on a thin finger of land surrounded by sea on three sides so it is a wild and wonderful place. The painting above (oil on canvas) was painted about five years ago and was used as a poster by the Dublin Painting and Sketching Club for their annual exhibition. The big billowing sky coming off the Atlantic is typical of the area - I think it is time I ventured back there and did another painting.

TWO IMAGES FROM MY IRISH SKETCHBOOK

Two watercolour sketches from my Irish sketchbook. Top: the Martello Tower at Sandycove, Dublin (also known as Joyce's Tower). Below: a group of fishing boats at Kilmore Quay. I have been neglecting my sketchbooks recently and should get back into them as they are a great source of material for paintings.
